From an evolutionary standpoint, an hourglass figure with a narrow waist and full buttocks is associated with female reproductive potential and has been considered an aesthetic ideal across cultures.  A round, well-projected buttock indicates fertility and youth in a woman and is considered aesthetically pleasing.  With the popularity of several celebrities' derriere such as those of Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Sofia Vergara, the plastic surgery procedure called Brazilian Butt Lift has become more popular among women.

What is the Brazilian Butt Lift?

Correction of Contour Irregularity After Liposuction

Liposuction is  most popular and most common plastic surgery procedures in the United States and worldwide.  Liposuction is perfect for removing unwanted body fat in certain areas and creating a great overall shape and silhouette of the body.

Contour irregularities or depression/skin irregularities are one of the most common complications after liposuction.  Contour irregularities are bumps, lumps, or ripples in the liposuction treated area, which mar the look of final results after the procedure.

Prevention is Key

• As a surgeon, contour irregularities can be prevented by using smaller cannulaes and avoiding liposuction in areas where contour irregularities are more common, such as in Zones of Adherence.

Zones of Adherence in Red are areas that liposuction should be avoided.  These areas are prone to contour irregularities when liposuctioned.

•  Traditional liposuction methods are also more prone to contour irregularities than the use of the VASER liposuction methods.   One clinical study showed no contour irregularities with the use of the VASER liposuction machine in the hands of an experienced PLASTIC SURGEON.

Correction and Treatment of Contour Irregularities

• For patients in distress over their results due to contour irregularities, contour irregularities that resulted from a previous liposuction can be corrected.  
• Contour irregularities can be corrected with the use of fat grafting.  There's a possibility that multiple fat grafting may be needed to correct a contour irregularity.

4D VASER High-Definition Liposuction

Abdominal etching was initially developed by Dr. Mentz in 1993.  It was a liposuction technique defining the rectus abdominis muscle to create the 6-pack in men.   With this technique, the linea alba in the middle of the rectus abdominis muscle is etched with the outline of the muscles.   Horizontal lines are then created to sculpt a 6-pack.

This technique was further enhanced and improved by a Colombian plastic surgeon Dr. Alfredo Hoyos using the VASER liposuction technology.  VASER (acronym for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) is an ultrasound-assisted liposuction that utilizes ultrasound energy to selectively remove fat without harming the surrounding structures of the area being liposuctioned.

How Does the VASER Liposuction Work?

VASER liposuction is a minimally invasive liposuction procedure performed in conjunction with tumescent anesthesia that utilizes advanced ultrasound technology designed to gently reshape the body. The ultrasound energy is transmitted through the small VASER probes that diffuse the ultrasound waves and liquefy the fat for easy removal. The ultrasound energy is gentle enough that it can break apart the fat with minimal damage to surrounding tissues, creating smooth, predictable results with fast patient recovery.

Clinical Study

A multicenter, prospective randomized controlled trial in 2012 recently showed that the VASER-assisted liposuction resulted in a statistically significant improvement in skin retraction of 53 percent relative to the traditional regular liposuction (17 percent per liter versus 11 percent per liter, p = 0.003). Moreover, the VASER-assisted liposuction group also resulted in a statistically significant reduction in blood loss of 26 percent relative to the traditional liposuction (p = 0.019 with n = 20 using a two-tailed t test).

Smoked Salmon Phyllo Bites with Honey & Caviar Rosette

This is one of Dr. De La Cruz' recipe presented at the Texas Taste Teaser Celebrity Chef Competition.  Twenty six (26) celebrity and professional chefs participated in this competition. The recipe won "The Most Delicious" Chef Award by celebrity judges in Houston.  

Macaron By Patisse won the "People's Choice Award" and Dr. De La Cruz won the "Most Delicious" Chef Award at the Texas Taste Teaser Celebrity Chef Competition.

INGREDIENTS
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons dill
3 dashes of Worcesteshire sauce (Lea & Perrins')
8 ounces sliced smoked salmon 
2 tablespoons of sweetened butter
16 Oz Pegasus or Athens Fillo/Phyllo Dough  & Local Honey

DIRECTIONS
Combine the cream cheese, lemon juice, Worcesteshire sauce, butter, and dill in a bowl until completely blended.

On a piece of waxed paper, arrange the smoked salmon slices in a rectangle about 3 inches wide and 12 inches long, slightly overlapping each piece. (If the salmon slices are cut irregularly, simply piece them together like a puzzle.)

Spread a thin layer of the cream cheese mixture on the salmon, sprinkle with dill (optional), and roll up like a jellyroll.

Place the salmon roll with cream cheese in the freezer for 1 hour or prior to serving, then cut into 1/2-inch slices. Place each pinwheel atop the phyllo with honey inside the phyllo.   Place some caviar and garnish (parsley) on top of the salmon pinwheel.   

DIRECTIONS to MAKE PHYLLO SHELLS

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Spray a mini muffin tin with cooking spray. Get the phyllo dough ready by opening the thawed package and putting all of the sheets of dough on large clean cookie sheet. Cover the sheets of dough with a piece of waxed paper and then put a damp kitchen towel on top of the waxed paper. Melt your butter, grab your pastry brush and a pizza cutter or knife.  As an alternative, one can spray each phyllo dough with cooking spray.  When you are ready put one piece of phyllo dough on a large cutting board, cover the rest, and then carefully but quickly brush it with butter. Place another sheet on top and repeat until you have 5 sheets of dough total. Brush the top sheet with butter too.

Cut the phyllo dough into 12 rectangles (the sheets are rectangles, so cut the long side into 4 pieces and the short side into 3 pieces). Pick up one rectangle and push the center into the bottom of the muffin tin holes. Press on the sides gently to make a cup. Repeat with the remaining dough pieces. Bake until they are light golden, about 8 minutes, being careful not to let them burn. Then remove the phyllo shells from the tray.  Sprinkle the phyllo shells with honey and then bake for another 1 to 2 minutes.  Cool completely before using.

Comparison of SmartLipo versus Traditional Liposuction

• A prospective randomized clinical study showed that there's no clinical difference between the traditional liposuction versus laser-assisted liposuction using the SmartLipo machine.

•  There's less pain, lower lipocrits, higher triglycerides, and DNA cellular membrane traces were detected in the laser-assisted lipoplasty sides as compared to the traditional liposuction.

• Higher concentrations of free-fatty acids after laser-assisted lipoplasty was found.  It's recommended that this should alert us to any possible hepatic and renal toxicity.
